Sam Francis wanted to be a doctor, was trained to be a military pilot and ended up as a painter. Sam Francis - born in San Mateo, California in 1923 - left behind pictures hanging in all the world's biggest museums. This great painter always remained true to his guiding principle: "I don't paint for anything money can buy: I only paint for myself. In this spirit he designed the 1992 Swatch Art Special (taken from Swatch-Art Gallery).
Hideki Nakazawa(TokyoMANGA) is one of
the most productive artists of our time. While most computer artists are
using the state of the art method and maximum colors in creating the computer
arts; Nakazawa, on the other hand, is using minimal computer technology
and color in getting his message across. This one of the reasons that make
his works was appraised by his fans, the minimalist but very influential
work of art. (text from Jerry S. Justianto)
"To me, Time and Space are great Luxuries,
so I don't really like to quantify them.
That is why that I wanted to make of this watch something more than a mere
counting machine. I wanted to make a jewel, and object of seduction, playing
with the idea of hands - or lack there of - contained within a kind of
equally whimsical evening bag." - Christian Lacroix When Christian
Lacroix think of Christmas...
"Don't waste time being obsessed by it" is the motto of the graduate
in art history from Provence, who headed for Paris intending to work in
a museum but somewhere along the line became one of France's greatest couturiers.
Lacroix wallows in luxurious fabrics, colors and ornamentation. In his eyes,
calling something "opulent" is not an insult - it automatically
makes it even more attractive and desirable. Lashings of gold, crosses and
hearts are his trademark. One of the few times he held back was when he
designed a watch for Swatch. Xmas by Xian Lax- The Christmas Special by
Christian Lacroix - has no hands. Just single dot moving steadily round
the dial to complete one revolution every 12 hours. There can be no doubt
it's the best way of poking fun at people who take time too seriously. And
any woman with splash of style and an Xmas by Xian Lax in the evening bag
that comes with it is demonstrating unmistakably that time is the least
of her concerns. (text from Swatch)
